Twenty years ago, I founded Discovery Academy with a single purpose: to give students the tools to succeed\u2014not just in school, but in everything that comes after.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

As a researcher, I spent nearly two decades at the University of Toronto studying how the physical world works at its smallest scale. But my deepest passion has always been teaching. For over 40 years, across three countries and three universities, I\u2019ve watched students struggle and I\u2019ve watched them thrive\u2014and I\u2019ve learned that the difference almost always comes down to one thing: whether someone took the time to find the gap in their understanding and help them close it.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

That\u2019s what we do at Discovery Academy.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

When a child struggles, we don\u2019t assume they can\u2019t learn\u2014we assume they\u2019re missing a piece. Maybe it\u2019s a concept from last year. Maybe it\u2019s a fundamental skill that was never fully built. We go back, we find it, and we put it in place. And when that piece clicks\u2014when a student\u2019s face lights up with genuine understanding\u2014that is why I do this work. I personally develop the education materials we use at this school. Hundreds of booklets, designed so that every student can follow their own path at their own pace. No two children learn the same way, and our program reflects that.<\/p>

But what truly makes Discovery Academy special isn\u2019t the materials\u2014it\u2019s the people. Our teachers are mentors. Our older students look after our younger ones. We are, in every sense, a family. And families don\u2019t give up on each other.<\/p>
